A view of St. Wojciech’s Hill
1 February 2024

The revitalization of Stara Rzeznia is an extraordinary undertaking, preceded by years of preparation. We are working amidst eclectic, post-industrial buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, in direct proximity to valuable medieval monuments located on St. Wojciech’s Hill. These include historic churches, particularly the Church of St. Wojciech, with stained-glass windows designed by Stanisław Wyspianski and Józef Mehoffer.
The hill also houses Poznan’s “Skalka,” the crypt of notable figures, including Józef Wybicki, the author of the Polish national anthem; Paweł Edmund Strzelecki, the famous explorer; and the heart of General Jan Henryk Dąbrowski, leader of the Polish Legions in Italy. Opposite the site lies the Cemetery of Distinguished Wielkopolans.
The urban design plan envisions opening up the former industrial area, providing access to St. Wojciech’s Hill from a direction that has been inaccessible to residents for over 125 years. Along the way from Stara Rzeznia, visitors will be able to stop at the new Wielkopolska Uprising Museum, currently under construction nearby.
