Preserving historic details

The bricks in the renovated H17 building have undergone thorough cleaning—first with high-pressure washing, then meticulously piece by piece. All reconstructed masonry was carried out using nearly 100% original bricks from 1897–1900.

The preserved original steel lintels (I-beams), manufactured in 1872 at the Peine rolling mill in Lower Saxony, still exhibit excellent durability. Therefore, all reused beams were sandblasted and coated with fire-resistant paint. One of the lintels still bears its original manufacturer’s signature: PEINER WALZWERK NR 18 1897.

Originally, door frames in the building were anchored in wooden blocks embedded in the door openings. We have preserved one of these blocks in its original location as a historical memento. Today, modern door frames are installed using the latest technologies.
