Vastint invests in a stormwater collector for the Old Town
20 August 2024
The stormwater collector we are building will have a total capacity of over 720 m³—equivalent to a large swimming pool at “Chwialka.” However, it will never be entirely filled with water, as its main purpose is to efficiently drain excess rainwater during heavy storms.
Investing in stormwater infrastructure in Poznań has once again demonstrated the challenges of conserving historic architecture, including:
• Unfavorable geological conditions (the foundations of Stara Rzeźnia were built over a century ago on raised ground due to the need to stabilize former wetlands),
• Hydrological challenges (several underground water basins converge at this location),
• Climate change (unexpectedly high groundwater levels),
• Community needs (the new collector will serve the entire city, especially the historic Old Town),
• Financial considerations (a significant investment), and…
• Aesthetic concerns (or rather, the lack of them, since once completed, the collector will be buried underground, invisible to passersby).
